RESET!

You probably have been working on a project at some time with a computer or tool that at the
most crucial time stopped functioning.  One may feel exasperated, frustrated, irritated, and think
the universe is against you.  Out of desperation you call the help desk or the service line and
when finally connected to a "real" human being pour out your tale of woe and irritation.  The all
knowing voice on the other end of the line says, "Have you tried the reset button?"  More to please
the service representative than your faith that this solution will work, you acquiesce and press the
reset button.  And suddenly the appliance, tool, or whatever is working again.

When our lives do not seem to be functioning the way we would like them to we often display the
same behavior as when the "thing" we were working on quits.  We may become more irritable,
give up too easily, or retreat into some negative behavior, whether it is drinking too much, using
drugs, or just going for the twinkies.  Instead, maybe we need to push the reset button.  How do
we do that?  1) Realize that (usually) the situation is inconvenient but not hopeless; 2) Take a
break!  (Go for a quick walk); 3) Ask for help; 4.) Talk with a friend; 5) Find something to laugh
about.  Frequently doing any one of the these may provide you with the relief and energy to push
the reset button so you can get back to work.
