People seek therapy for a variety of reasons but their motivation is often similar...they are facing a situation they feel unprepared to deal with. We all develop skills through our life experiences that enable us to cope with life's stressors. But sometimes our knowledge and experience isn't enough. We need to learn new ways to cope, yet asking for help is often the hardest part. We want to feel we are capable enough to handle everything on our own.
I like to describe therapy as a way to add tools to our toolboxes. If someone asked us to build a house we might go to our toolbox for the tools to get started. Buy what if we only had a hammer and a saw in our toolbox? That hammer and saw allowed us to master some projects but obviously, we are going to have to find additional tools if we are to build a house. That's what therapy can provide for you. Together we can learn new skills and new ways of coping that will allow you to build your life, meet your goals or evaluate and improve difficult relationships! Whether your life needs a major renovation or a quick remodel, therapy can be a great start to finding more peace, contentment and emotional freedom.
