Adolescent Therapy

Adolescents are living in an exciting time of change and confusion. Learning to deal with the stressors of a changing body, peer pressure, academic challenges, and cooperative living in the home can be a challenge.  A nonjudgmental listener can assist the teenager in exploring different roles and opportunities for changing behaviors.

We believe that if the adolescent is having difficulty the parents are probably also experiencing frustration with this developmental phase. Consequently, this office only sees teenagers whose parents are willing to be involved in therapy also.

Issues addressed in these sessions include testing for ADHD (if it appears necessary) and organizational skills for academic performance; addressing behavior and social skills; and learning to cooperate with parents.  Our philosophy is that the adolescent is best served if he/she can stay in the home.  If, however, there is a crisis that calls for out-of-the-home placement, websites and literature can be shared with the parents for their investigation of programs that fit both the family and the adolescents needs.
